Have you thought about Black & White to Colour Conversion?

Hand-Colouring from only £30
Our photo restoration services expert, James Middleton, has mastered the art of meticulously hand-tinting black-and-white photographs. Way beyond the abilities of AI alone. Using his signature blend of filters and techniques, he can transform most black-and-white images into vivid colour. The final, hand-tinted photos never cease to amaze our clients.
How to get your photograph to us
We typically work with scanned digital copies rather than original photographs. We prefer to work with image files sent to info@turningturnip.co.uk, via free services, such as fromsmash or wetransfer. If you only have a hard copy and you don’t have access to a scanner, we can scan your original photo for a fee of £5, plus postage and packaging costs to return the print. For those scanning at home, please follow these guidelines:
This approach enables us to edit the digital file non-destructively, preserving your original, irreplaceable photograph without risk.
When scanning your photos at home, we recommend the following image dimensions in pixels to allow for over-scanning and to accommodate borders on the original photograph:
For scans containing large non-photographic areas (such as frames and borders), please increase the dimensions as needed to achieve the highest quality. Over-scanning the original photograph provides us with greater detail, ensuring exceptional results for our professional retouching.
If you have questions about scanning, image dimensions, or any of our photo restoration services, please feel free to contact us. Our team is delighted to offer guidance to help you achieve optimal scans for our Photoshop retouching services. 01626 68 81 81.

Yes. Torn photographs, fold marks, cracks, and deep creases can usually be digitally repaired in Photoshop. Even badly damaged family photographs can often be reconstructed with surprisingly natural-looking results.
We use professional Photoshop techniques and manual retouching rather than relying purely on automated AI restoration tools. While AI can sometimes help with small areas, fully automatic restoration often creates unrealistic faces, distorted hands, or inaccurate details. Every image is personally restored by Photoshop expert James Middleton to maintain authenticity and quality.

Simple restoration work typically starts from around £25 per image, although larger or heavily damaged photographs may cost more depending on the amount of repair work required. We always provide a fixed quote before any work begins.
Most photo restoration projects are completed within a few days. Smaller repairs are often finished sooner, while complex restorations involving severe damage or reconstruction may take longer. If you need something urgently, please let us know.
In many cases, yes. While scanned originals always produce the best results, we can often improve photographs taken using a phone camera – especially if the original image is no longer available.
For best results, photographs should ideally be scanned at 300–600 DPI without filters or automatic enhancements enabled. Higher-resolution scans give us more detail to work with and usually produce better restorations.
No. All restoration work is carried out digitally using a scan or digital copy of your photograph. Your original print remains untouched and completely safe throughout the process.
Often, yes. Missing corners, damaged edges, or lost background detail can sometimes be recreated digitally using surrounding image information and careful retouching techniques.
