Professional Photoshop Expertise Since the 1990s

Turning Turnip was founded by James Middleton, a professional Adobe Photoshop specialist with experience dating back to the mid-1990s, shortly after Photoshop first became widely available to creative professionals.

Since then, Photoshop has evolved enormously — from early desktop image editing into the advanced digital imaging platform used worldwide today. Throughout that time, James has worked professionally across photo restoration, image manipulation, digital retouching, CGI imagery, and advanced Photoshop editing.

Unlike many modern image editing services that rely heavily on automated filters or outsourced production, all work carried out by Turning Turnip is completed personally in-house using years of practical experience and professional judgement.

Over 25 Years of Professional Experience

James has been running a dedicated image editing and restoration business since 2000, working with both private clients and commercial organisations throughout the UK and internationally.

Projects have included:

  • restoring damaged and faded family photographs
  • advanced Photoshop manipulation
  • commercial image retouching
  • CGI product visuals
  • product rendering and animation
  • clipping path work
  • image enhancement and upscaling
  • digital artwork and compositing

Every project is approached individually, with a focus on realism, attention to detail, and producing natural-looking results.

Teaching Photoshop Professionally

In addition to commercial work, James has also taught Photoshop and digital imaging professionally for many years.

This has included teaching:

  • universities
  • colleges
  • businesses
  • training organisations
  • technology hubs
  • one-to-one professional tuition

This teaching experience has helped develop not only advanced technical knowledge, but also a deep understanding of professional workflows, image analysis, and how Photoshop techniques have evolved over time.

A Human Approach to Digital Restoration

Many of the photographs submitted for restoration are irreplaceable family memories, often damaged by age, fading, water, creases, or physical deterioration.

Restoration work is therefore approached carefully and realistically, with the aim of preserving the original character of the photograph rather than over-processing it.

The same philosophy applies to all image editing work carried out by Turning Turnip — whether restoring an old family portrait, creating CGI visuals, or producing commercial product imagery.

Based in the UK

Turning Turnip is based in Devon in the South West of England and works with clients throughout the UK and internationally.

All work is carried out personally by James Middleton and is never outsourced overseas.
