Places to try «More great places to stay in the UK and Ireland»
On this page you'll find a list of great places that you might want to consider visiting.
Plume of Feathers Pub and Campsite, Dartmoor in Devon Last summer, I took my son for a hiking holiday across a mix of places in the south west of England. One week, we stopped at a small campsite in Princetown, Dartmoor, south Devon behind the 'Plume of Feathers' Pub.
We had a great time. The campsite was quiet and full of serious hikers and climbers. The Plume of Feathers served good pub-grub and also offered bunk houses incase the weather turned. The site did excellent facilities; access to running water, very lush shower block and a washing up area.
Out through the Pub car-park, on the main road where situated a small row of shops and a few other pubs and tea-shops. A little further up the road we found a tourist information Centre and a Prison Museum.
At the top of the camping field was a small style, over which a foot path stretched out across the moors. After hiking for about 10 minutes, we came across our first Tor. Not too sure on what it was called. The scenery around the campsite was breathtaking and I will be calling in again. A great place to stay to get away from it all.
Robin Hoods Bay - Near Whitby, Yorkshire If you are ever near the Yorkshire coast try to have a lok at Robin Hood's Bay.
It is about five miles south of Whitby. It is very picturesque and beautiful. Great for anyone into photography.
The walk down from the carpark to the sea front can be a steep and bit of haul on the way back.
Great excuse to stop in one of the tea shops for a Yorkshire Tea. It is well worth the effort - the beach can be great for fossil hunting. The only fossil I ever found was on the beach here.
Alston - Cumbria - North Pennines Alston in Cumbria is Englands highest town, set in the heart of the beautiful North Pennines; an "Area of outstanding natural beauty" with its wealth of history, spectacular veiws, waterfalls, birds, flora and fauna, away from the hustle and bustle of the lakes.
Where you can stroll the many footpaths that criss cross the area at your leisure.
Spending the day seeing only the wild live that lives in the area and the odd farmer tending his flock, who will be happy to pass the time off day if you so wish to stop a while.
