Making a Signature and saving it as a brush stamp

By John Sweeney - 16th of January 2007

How would you like to be able to stamp any or all of your pictures with a permanent stamp of your signature, it's easier than it sounds.

  1. First, write your signature on a piece of paper and scan it into your computer. Preferably into Photoshop, because that's where you're going to use it.
  2. Crop the image as tight as possible so that only the area of your signature is seen, the rest is just taking up space. Then save it anyway as a JPEG for future use elsewhere.
  3. Go to Edit, on the menu bar, and select Define Brush Preset, a new small pallet will open, name it signature and click OK. Your signature is now saved as a brush stamp.
  4. Next open an image, any image.
  5. Select the brush tool from your toolbar (B on your keyboard) and go to the contextual bar, which is just below the menu bar and select the brush, not the tool but the word brush to the right of the tool, just below image and layer on the menu bar, now scroll down to the bottom of the brushes until you find your signature stamp. Click on it and now your brush is in fact your signature. You can alter the size of it by clicking on the square arrow keys on your keyboard just to the right of the letter P.
  6. You can click it anywhere on your image, hold it in place and click it again, it will become more pronounced, initially it will only print in black or white depending on how you have the toolbar colours set-up but you can change these and add your signature in any colour you want. If you want to change the colour of your stamp just click on the foreground colour on your toolbar and you will be presented with a colour pallet, just select the colour you want. Neat isn't it.
