Darken Over Exposed Picture

By John Sweeney - 16th of January 2007

Have you ever taken a picture that is too light and you want to know how to correct it, yes, follow the instructions.

  1. Open the picture.
  2. Make a duplicate of the picture so you can check the changes against it. To make a duplicate click your right mouse button the blue bar area above the picture or just go to Image and Duplicate, this makes an independent copy of the picture.
  3. On the layers pallet make a copy of the picture you are going to work on by dragging the image to the 'create a new layer' icon.
  4. On the top of the layers pallet where it says normal click and obtain the drop down menu, then select Multiply. This will darken the image, you can then reduce the opacity to suit if you need to, once you are satisfied the image is OK flatten it and save it.
  5. Check the image against the duplicate, if you're happy save the image and close the duplicate.
